BTEC National Certifi cate/Diploma (Level 3) SPORT & EXERCISE SCIENCE
This course aims to develop your understanding of the principles which govern performance in sport.
There will be a great emphasis on vocational skills such as collecting, collating and evaluating data,
investigating important issues and presenting information. Specific topics include: Anatomy; Scientifi c
Principles; Exercise Physiology; Nutrition; Sport Performance; Psychology; Fitness Testing. Although
most of the course is classroom-based, there will be opportunities for practical activity and for you to
take a selection of additional coaching and offi ciating awards.
Specific Entry Requirements: Six GCSEs at Grade A* - C (including
Science, Maths and English). An interest in practical sports is essential.
Additional Expenses: Sports clothing £90, textbook £20, CRB
check £37, Community Sports Leadership Award £23, Higher
Sports Leadership Award £34. There may also be costs
associated with trips and additional qualifi cations.
Work Experience: Two weeks' work experience in a
sports-related environment. Additional leadership
and individual placement experience is gained in
coaching, offi ciating and tournament organisation.
The CSA and HSLA are leadership awards acquired
over the two years of this course.
Progression: This course can lead to a subject-
related course at university, such as sport science,
physical education teaching, sports therapy or sports
psychology, or to employment within the sports
industry.
