BTEC First Diploma (Level 2) SPORTS

This course will develop your understanding of the
pinciples which underpin the way people perform
in sport. You will study physical, social and life
sciences, which are taught using a variety of
teaching methods and in particular practical tasks.
Topics will include: the Body in Action; Planning
and Leading Sports Activities; Practical Sport;
Preparation for Sport. There will be a two-week
work placement towards the end of the course.

Specific Entry Requirements: You should
have achieved two GCSEs at Grade A* - C, one
preferably in English Language, and others at
Grade D or above. You should also demonstrate
commitment to study and an interest in practical
performance. If you do not already have the Junior
Sports Leaders Award, you will be expected to complete
this qualifi cation

Additional Expenses: Course textbooks approximately £20, JSLA
(Junior Sports Leaders Award) approximately £12, Yeovil College sports kit
£90, CRB check £37. Sports trips to specifi c facilities will incur a small charge.

Progression: Employment in the sports industry or progression to BTEC National Diploma/Certificate
in Sport or Sports & Exercise Science.

BTEC National Certifi cate/Diploma Level 3 SPORT

This course aims to develop your understanding of strategies currently being used to develop the health
of the nation and of the role of key people within the industry, including coaches and trainers. Specifi c
topics will include: Principles of Coaching; Nutrition; Fitness-testing; Training; Sports Development;
Ethics and Values. The course will encourage you to become a refl ective practitioner. Although a large
part of the course is classroom-based, there will be opportunities for practical activity.

Specific Entry Requirements: You should have six GCSEs at Grade A* - C (including English). A
good level of physical fi tness and performance in practical sports is important.

Additional Expenses: Sports clothing £90, textbook £20, CRB check £37, Community Sports
Leadership Award (Year 1) £23, Higher Sports Leadership Award (Year 2) £34. There may be costs
associated with trips and additional qualifi cations.

Work Experience: Two weeks' work experience in a sports-related environment. Realistic sports
experience in terms of leadership, coaching and tournament organisation. All students complete the
CSLA (Community Sports Leadership Award) and the HSLA (Higher Sports Leadership Award).

Progression: This course can lead to a subject-related course
at university, such as secondary/primary school teaching,
sports coaching, sports studies and sports development,
or to employment within the sports industry.
