NVQ (Level 1 & 2) SPORT, RECREATION & ALLIED OCCUPATIONS
- OPERATIONAL SERVICES
This course is for anyone who wishes to work in the Fitness & Leisure industry. At both levels you will
learn to assist others in setting up, taking down and storing equipment, maintaining a facility area,
giving good customer service and planning and delivering sessions. There will also be opportunities to
gain a range of other related qualifi cations.
Specific Entry Requirements: There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need a good
all-round education, a commitment to fi tness and health, regular participation in active sport and the
motivation to succeed.
Additional Expenses: Tracksuit £90, Junior Sports Leadership paperwork (Level 1) £12, Community
Sports Leadership Award (Level 2) £23, CRB check £37.
Residentials: You may have the opportunity to take part in an armed-forces outdoor activity and team
building/leadership skills week. This will incur a small cost.
Work Experience: You will spend one day per week on a work placement. There are a number of
mandatory days where experience is gained in organisations, offi ciating at and running community
sports events, for example, the Montacute House Schools and District Cross Country event,
Stanchester Disabled Sports Day and the Bath and West Show.
Progression: Employment in fi tness or leisure centres, or you can continue to Level 2 NVQ or the
more theoretical First Diploma in Sport.
NVQ (Level 2) SPORT, RECREATION & ALLIED OCCUPATIONS
- COACHING, TEACHING, INSTRUCTING
This course is suitable for students who have had some prior experience of coaching, teaching or
instructing. Students are required to work within a professional context delivering sporting activities
to school children, adults with physical and/or learning disabilities and Gifted and Talented/elite sports
persons. You are assessed through a portfolio of evidence and practical assessment.
Specific Entry Requirements: You must be over 17 and have a proven interest and experience in the
sports industry, whether in coaching, teaching or instructing. The minimum academic requirement is
two GCSEs (including English Language) at Grade C.
Additional Expenses: Tracksuit £90, CRB check £37, Community Sports Leadership Award £23,
Consumables/Trips £30.
