BTEC First Certifi cate/Diploma (Level 2) IT PRACTITIONERS
This course will give you a sound foundation in Information Technology. It aims to provide you with
both practical skills and a knowledge base to be used in IT applications and software development. It
will also give you the opportunity to develop the personal skills needed in the workplace. You will learn
to present information, to use spreadsheet and database packages. Diploma students will also learn
program and website design.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry qualifi cations apply, although other qualifi cations or
experience may be appropriate for entry onto the course.
Additional Expenses: A 1GB or 2GB USB memory stick.
Progression: Achieving a merit in this course will allow you to enrol on the BTEC National Diploma IT
Practitioners. Alternatively, it is a valuable qualifi cation for employment.
BTEC National Certifi cate/Diploma (Level 3) IT PRACTITIONERS
This course provides knowledge of the use of IT in programming, software development and practical IT
skills. It will also give you the opportunity to develop the personal skills needed in the workplace.
Units include: Computer Systems; Information Systems; Software Development; Website Production
and Management; Communications Technology; Programming; E-commerce. You will be taught using
a range of methods including lectures, group discussion and research activities. Most units have a
strong practical element during which you will be working with computers.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard requirements including GCSE Maths and English.
Additional Expenses: Approximately £30 for course materials including a 1 or 2GB USB memory stick.
Progression: Of the students completing the equivalent course last year, 50% went on to university
(including the UCY), and 30% are working in the fi eld of computing and IT.
