BTEC National Award (Level 3)
PERFORMING ARTS - DANCE
The course teaches and develops a broad-based
general knowledge, understanding and experience
of dance. Study includes: Dance History; Dance
Analysis; Anatomy; Choreography; Performance.
You will be assessed as a solo performer and
as a member of group. There is a wide range of
performance opportunities.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry
requirements, preferably including GCSE English and
Maths. You do not need to have studied dance before,
but need to show a willingness to experiment with
movement and a commitment to the group.
Additional Expenses: £10 materials fee and £50 trips fund.
Dance kit of loose clothing and leotard. Other residentials/trips
are planned.
Progression: Past students have gained places at university and at specialist dance schools. Some
have progressed to the Foundation degrees at the UCY and courses at the London Contemporary
Dance School, the Laban Contemporary Dance Centre, the University of Surrey, the Urdang Academy
and Laines Theatre Arts School.
BTEC National Diploma (Level 3) PERFORMANCE AND PRODUCTION
This course develops knowledge, understanding and experience of the performing arts, including
dance, drama, design, music, technical theatre and arts administration. The course also puts the
performing arts in context by teaching the historical, political and financial aspects.
You will develop valuable team-work skills which you will use to turn your group into a successful
performance company. Each year you will be involved in two major performances and many smaller-
scale performances.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements plus an audition process or presentation
of a portfolio of design/stagecraft projects you have worked on.
Additional Expenses: £50 to cover the cost of trips and travel, £10
materials fee.
Progression: Past students have progressed to a wide range
of performing arts-related courses such as dance, technical
design and performance, teacher training and
management in business, as well as Foundation
degrees at the UCY.
