BTEC First Diploma (Level 2) PERFORMING ARTS OR MUSIC

This course allows you to develop a broad-based knowledge, understanding and experience of the
performing arts, including music, dance, drama, musical theatre and technical theatre. You may choose
to follow Performing Arts or Music optional units.

There is a lot of emphasis on group work within this course. You will be working to develop your
confi dence, responsibility, reliability and teamwork skills to help you become a valuable team member in
preparation for your fi nal Diploma show.

The course also puts the performing arts industry in context by examining current professional practice.

Specific Entry Requirements: There are no specifi c entry requirements, but an ability to work as a
team and an enthusiasm for the performing arts are essential, as is a willingness to be open to new
ideas and experiences.

Additional Expenses: £30 for trips and workshops.

Progression: This course is an excellent preparation for Level 3 vocational courses, especially the
National Diploma courses in Performing Arts, Music, and Media Studies.

BTEC National Award (Level 3) PERFORMING ARTS - ACTING

The course teaches and develops a broad-based general knowledge, understanding and experience
of acting. A wide range of theatre genres are studied. Additional study includes theatre history,
performance styles and live performance analysis. You will learn about the principles of acting. You
will work individually and in a group context. During the two-year course the group will develop into a
performance company for a fi nal major performance project.

Specific Entry Requirements: You will need at least fi ve GCSEs at Grade A* - C, preferably including
English and Maths. You do not need to have studied acting before, but need to show a willingness to
experiment and explore drama techniques. You should be wholly reliable and able to work successfully
to build and sustain a productive team-dynamic.

Additional Expenses: £50 trips fund and a £10 materials fee. Other trips and residentials are planned.

Progression: Students who have studied drama have progressed to a wide variety of courses at
university or at specialist drama schools.
