BTEC National Award (Level 3) MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
This course will give you a broad knowledge, understanding and experience of recording studios,
production techniques and acoustics. You will develop a musical vocabulary and learn to understand
the elements of music. You will learn listening skills so that you can listen critically to recordings and
works in progress. You will have access to the college's recording studios and Music Technology suite,
which contains industry-standard recording equipment and software, to enable you to plan, set-up and
run a recording session.
Specific Entry Requirements: You should have GCSE English and Maths at Grade C. Previous
experience with recording studios or software may be an advantage
Additional Expenses: Material fee of £30. Trips will cost about £50. You will need your own
headphones.
Progression: The BNA leads to a nationally-recognised qualifi cation equivalent to one A Level. It can
prepare you for university or employment in the cultural sector.
BTEC National Diploma (Level 3) MUSIC PRACTICE
This course will give you a broad-based knowledge, understanding and experience of music practice,
including management, the music business, performing, composing and theory. You will study music
in context, musical arranging and composition, music theory and harmony, live performance, MIDI
sequencing and software, live sound and more. You are expected to work in bands as part of your
course and will work to improve performance and rehearsal techniques.
Specific Entry Requirements: You should have GCSEs at Grade A* - C in English and Maths. You
must play a musical instrument. Formal study of Music and Music Theory to Grade 2 would be an
advantage.
Additional Expenses: Material fee of £30. Trips cost approximately £50. You will need to provide your
own instruments and headphones.
Progression: Subject-related courses at university or a wide range of employment opportunities in the
cultural sector.
