NVQ (Level 2 & 3) BEAUTY THERAPY

This course is ideal for those interested in building a
career within the beauty industry. You will study a
range of topics including: Facials; Skin Conditions;
Manicures; Pedicures; Hair-removal; Make-up;

Eye Treatments; Salon and Reception Duties.
These will all help you to work effectively in a salon
environment. A full NVQ Level 2 qualifi cation is
necessary to progress to Level 3.

Specific Entry Requirements: You will need a
minimum of three GCSEs at Grade C or above
including English, Maths and Science. Your
personality and demeanour will also give input to the
interview process.

Additional Expenses: Uniforms and kits (including
textbooks) at a cost of approximately £310.

Residentials: A trip abroad.

Work Experience Opportunities: On Level 3, two weeks within a
chosen salon or beauty environment.

Progression: Successful completion of these courses can lead to employment
in beauty salons, health farms, leisure centres, theatres or TV, make-up studios and cruise liners. If
you complete Level 3, you will have the skills needed to open your own salon.

NVQ (Level 1) HAIRDRESSING

This course will introduce you to the hair industry, teaching you the basics of working in a professional
salon. It consists of about 60% practical training (based in our own hair salon) and 40% theory. You
will gain a range of skills and knowledge including: Effective Working Relationships; Reception Duties;
Shampooing and Conditioning; Health and Safety. You will learn to assist with perming and colouring
treatments. The intention is that you will work normally, and as you gain experience and confi dence,
you will reach a level of competence in each area.

Specific Entry Requirements: Entry requirements are fl exible, but a good standard of writing skills is
needed, and knowledge of science and IT is useful.

Additional Expenses: Approximately £170 for kit, including textbook and uniform.

Residentials: These vary each year.

Work Experience Opportunities: One day per week in salon placement is required.

Progression: Level 1 Hairdressing leads to Level 2. Staff can also give you advice on employment
opportunities.
