CACHE Diploma (Level 2)
CHILDCARE & EDUCATION
This one-year course combines work experience with sessions
in the classroom: lectures, group work, individual research,
visits, practical sessions audio-visual and visiting speakers. The
units taught will cover: the Physical Care and Development of
the Child; Working with Young Children; Emotional and Social
Development; all are intended to prepare you for employment with
children from 0 - 16 years old.
Specific Entry Requirements: A minimum of three GCSEs at
Grade C, which must include English.
Work Experience: You will spend time working with babies and children
in different settings, including nurseries, pre-schools and schools up to KS2.
Additional Expenses: CRB check £37. Course textbook approximately £20.
Additional textbooks may also be purchased. Yeovil College polo shirts approximately £12.
Progression: Students who successfully complete this course may have the opportunity to progress
onto the next stage of study, either the Diploma in Child Care and Education Level 3 or a Childcare
Apprenticeship programme. Some students secure work as teaching assistants in schools or as
nursery/pre-school assistants
CACHE Diploma (Level 3) CHILDCARE & EDUCATION
This two-year course combines work experience with sessions in the classroom: lectures, group work,
individual research, practical sessions and occasional lectures from visiting speakers. Theoretical work
includes behaviour management, child development, child protection, working with parents, first aid and
other aspects of childcare for 0 - 16 year olds.
Specific Entry Requirements: At least fi ve GCSEs at Grade C, which must include English Language
and Maths if you hope to go to university to study teaching, science, nursing or midwifery. We are also
looking for an ALIS score of 5.00 or above.
Work Experience: You will spend time working with babies and children in different settings, including
nurseries, registered childminders, pre-schools and schools up to KS2. Planning and child observations
carried out in the placements are part of the coursework and will be assessed within different units.
Additional Expenses: CRB check £37. Course book approximately £25 and non-specifi ed books as
required. Yeovil College polo shirts currently £12.
Progression: Students have gone on from this course to work in
nurseries, pre-schools and schools. Some have become nannies or
work for travel companies in England and abroad. Many students
choose to go to university to study teaching, childhood studies,
psychology, midwifery or nursing.
