BTEC First Diploma (Level 2) BUSINESS

This is a practical, work-related course. You will be able to carry out assessed
assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, so that you can focus
on developing specialist skills and knowledge.

Within the course you will study a wide range of business-related areas. Topics
include: Exploring the Purposes of Business; Developing Customer Relations;
Investigating Financial Control; Dealing with People. You will be given opportunities
to develop the personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life and
beyond.

Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements.

Progression: On similar courses over the past few years, students have progressed to a wide range
of interesting careers and further studies. Over half have entered business-related employment, whilst
the remainder have gone on to Level 3 courses, e.g. A Levels, BND Business, BND IT Practitioners,
BND Travel & Tourism and Business Administration apprenticeships.

BTEC National Certifi cate/Diploma (Level 3) BUSINESS

This is a practical two-year work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments
that are based on realistic business situations, activities and demands. Diploma students complete an
extra six units of study.

The course will give you both a broad foundation of business education and a firm basis for future
specialism in a chosen business area. You will learn about management, product promotion,
accounting, the running of a successful business and the presentation of business information.

Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements including Mathematics and English.

Additional Expenses: You are expected to buy an Accountancy textbook after tutor guidance.

Residentials: There is normally a visit to an international business venue in both the fi rst and second
years.

Progression: To business-related courses at university, including those at the UCY. BTEC National
Diplomas are valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such as
Finance, Human Resources, Management or Marketing, as well as other Business-related careers.
You may also progress within employment to professional qualifi cations such as those offered by the
Chartered Institute of Marketing, Management Accountants and Personnel Development.
