BTEC Introductory Certifi cate (Level 1) BUSINESS, RETAIL &
ADMINISTRATION
The BTEC Introductory Certifi cate is designed to encourage you to develop the personal skills and
qualities you need for work, taught in the context of real jobs and careers in the business, retail and
administration sectors. It gives you a chance to explore opportunities offered in that sector and to
acquire appropriate vocational skills.
Specific Entry Requirements: Certifi cate in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills, a standard of literacy
and numeracy required for Entry Level 3 and/or related interests and experiences.
Additional Expenses: You will need a folder, paper and some fl oppy discs or a USB memory stick.
We anticipate a maximum cost of £30.
Trips: Possible trips to local businesses.
Progression: You could top-up to the BTEC Introductory Diploma by undertaking the required
additional units. You can also progress onto qualifi cations such as BTEC First Certifi cate or Diploma in
Business.
BTEC Introductory Diploma (Level 1) BUSINESS, RETAIL &
ADMINISTRATION
This one-year course is a full-time programme and is designed to encourage you to develop the
personal skills and qualities you need for work in business or retail. It is a practical work-related course
which will help you achieve your full potential. Topics include: Starting Work, Customer Service,
Managing Finance, Health and Safety, Communicating at Work.
Specific Entry Requirements: You will normally need to have at least one of the following: an Entry
Certifi cate in Skills for Working Life, or Life Skills or other Entry-level qualifi cations; an appropriate
standard of literacy and numeracy; related interests and experiences
Additional Expenses: We anticipate a maximum cost of £30 for essential equipment.
Work Experience Opportunities: Work experience is important and you are encouraged to undertake
part-time employment.
Progression: A Level 1 qualifi cation in an alternative sector; BFD Business or NVQ Level 2.
