BTEC First Diploma (Level 2)
MEDIA - MOVING IMAGE
This one-year course provides an introduction to the media-
production industry. You will make a variety of media productions
including a radio show, fi lm trailer and a website, using state-of-
the-art digital equipment and software. Course modules include:
Introduction to Media Industries; Research for Media Production;
Introduction to Media Audiences and Products; Video Production;
Audio Production; Interactive Media Production; Writing for the
Media.
Specific Entry Requirements: A minimum of two GCSEs at Grades
A* - C and a basic ability in communication, numeracy and information
technology.
Additional Expenses: £30 at the start of each year for materials, access to your own hard-
drive for production and back-up reasons. Expenses for trips will also be required, in the region of £40.
Residentials: A trip to the BBC in London for a backstage tour.
Progression: You could go straight into employment within the media-production industry such as
newspapers, audio visual and multimedia business. You could continue your education and undertake
the BTEC National Diploma in Media.
BTEC National Award (Level 3) MEDIA - MOVING IMAGE
Throughout this course you will study many aspects of the media industry, including television, fi lm,
video and new technology. Units include: Film and Video Editing Techniques; Single Camera Drama
Techniques; Music Video Production. You will use high-quality digital camcorders and industry-standard
editing software to produce both fi ction and non-fi ction products to professional standards. You will be
introduced to a wide range of media skills including scriptwriting, pre-production, camerawork and video
editing through assignments such as `create single-camera drama' and `create a music video.'
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements and an active interest in media.
Additional Expenses: £50 at the start of each year for materials, access to your own hard-drive for
production and back-up reasons. Expenses for trips and residentials.
Residentials: A trip to the BBC in London for a backstage tour and opportunity to attend a one-week
residential in New York.
Progression: You could move directly into a job within the industry or progress to university-level
courses. You could also go into industry training in the following areas: TV, video, print & broadcast
journalism, fi lm making and marketing.
