BTEC National Diploma (Level 3) GENERAL ART & DESIGN
This course develops your skills and knowledge in a wide variety of specialisms, including 2D and 3D
visual language, materials, techniques and technology, research skills and an awareness of the work of
other artists and designers. There are trips to national and international cultural centres.
After a broad-based introductory term you will increasingly focus on a specific subject specialism, such
as fi ne art, sculpture, graphic design, product and furniture design, interior design and architecture,
fashion and textiles, photography and multimedia.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements and an enthusiasm for art and design.
Additional Expenses: Annual £60 studio fee, plus additional costs for materials and tools. Trips to
London over the duration of the course cost approximately £50.
Residentials: A week's residential in a foreign country is planned. Previous trips have included New
York, Paris, Rome and Florence.
Work Experience Opportunities: Links with local businesses and galleries create opportunities to
participate in exhibitions and to undertake live briefs.
Progression: Employment, or a wide range of subject-related courses at university, including those at
the UCY.
BTEC National Diploma (Level 3) ART & DESIGN
- GRAPHICS
This course will give you a sound knowledge of all the major
areas of industry with which graphic designers are involved:
Packaging, Advertising, New Media and Web Design, Illustration,
Photography, Typography, etc.
You will learn how to draw, visualise, generate ideas and
concepts and realise them, both by hand and with computer
software, and take part in live briefs and design competitions.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry
requirements plus an enthusiasm for art, design and
graphics.
Additional Expenses: Art and Design Kit £50; Portfolio
£60. There may be additional materials costs.
Residentials: New York in year two. You will visit the Empire
State building, Ground Zero, Greenwich Village, Moma, and
Design Schools.
Progression: Over the past couple of years around 50% of students
have gone on to study at university or college, 25% have gone on to
employment in related or other areas, and 25% have gone onto the one-year
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the UCY.
