AS/A Level INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of Information & Communication Technology (ICT),
providing a foundation from which to extend your knowledge of this growing area. Through practical
hands-on work and theory you will develop your understanding of the principles of problem-solving
using ICT. You will learn about the range of ICT applications and the effects of their use. The course
aims for you to be able to apply this knowledge and understanding when developing ICT solutions to
problems.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements for A Levels apply. There is no
requirement to have taken or passed a GCSE in Information Technology, although this is an advantage.
Additional Expenses: Approximately £25 for equipment.
Progression: This course helps further study on many university-level courses, such as those available
at the UCY, and equally offers promising job prospects in a wide variety of careers where use of up-to-
date IT software and hardware are important.
AS/A Level LAW
This course involves the study of the legal system in England and Wales. You will gain an overview
of how the civil and criminal courts work and learn the part played by both legal personnel, such as
solicitors, and lay people, such as juries. You will also learn how laws are made, developed and
changed over time. At A2, you will extend your knowledge and skills through an in-depth study of
criminal law.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements for A Levels apply; you do not have to
have studied Law before.
Additional Expenses: You will be expected to fund a trip to Parliament.
Visits: Potential visits to a magistrates' court, a County Court, a police station, and a local fi rm of
solicitors, as well as a tour of Parliament and the Inns of Court.
Progression: This course allows you to progress onto many university-level courses, such as those
available at the UCY, or to study Law at another institute. Potential careers include the legal profession,
management or local government.
