AS/A Level FASHION & TEXTILES
This course will include study of printmaking, an exploration of dyes on to fabrics and paper,
constructed textiles including felt making, silk paper making, knit, stitch, fashion
design and making. In Year 2, you will carry out a personal study about any
aspect of textiles or fashion that interests you.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements for A
Levels apply. Ideally a GCSE in Art or Textiles and a keen interest in
the subject.
Additional Expenses: Approximately £40 towards a trip to London
and approximately £250 for a residential trip. Two studio payments
of £35 and £40. Students are advised to provide their own fabric-
cutting scissors, tape measure, pins and assorted hand-sewing
needles.
Residential: Potential destinations include a day trip to London
and a residential, which in the past has been to Paris the home of
Haute Couture and Fashion.
Progression: This course is good preparation if you intend to apply
for an Art Foundation course to build a portfolio for university. Some
students may apply direct to university.
AS/A Level FINE ART
The course covers areas of fi ne art such as drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media and sculpture
and explores the work of various artists, art movements and themes. Coursework encourages you to
develop skills and understanding of visual language and associated practical skills, whilst placing the
work in context through researching the work of others. As the course develops, a greater emphasis
will be placed on the quality of background/supporting research and of the final pieces themselves.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements for A Levels apply. You should have
Grade A* - B in GCSE Art.
Additional Expenses: Approximately £370 for an optional trip.
Progression: This subject is good preparation if you apply for an Art and Design Foundation course
and is also suitable for progression to university-level qualifi cations such as Architecture, Design, and
Media.
