AS Level ACCOUNTING
The course aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the purposes of accounting.
It includes accounting concepts, techniques and the limitations of accounting. Topics will include:
Accounting Records; Trading; Profi t and Loss Accounts; Balance Sheets; Final Accounts; Capital
Structure of Limited Companies; Assessment of Business Performance. This is an ideal subject to
study alongside AS Business.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements for A Levels apply. You should have
Grade A* to C in GCSE Maths.
Additional Expenses: Approximately £15 for textbooks.
Residentials: Potential trips to Europe and another continent to research business practice in other
countries.
Progression: A good foundation for further study of Accounts or business-related subjects at university
level, e.g. at the UCY, or for an accounting-related career.
AS/A Level BIOLOGY/HUMAN BIOLOGY
This course allows you to follow an initial core module, including subjects such as: Cell Structure
and Function; Important Biochemicals and their Control; Enzymes and their Medical and Industrial
Application; DNA and Genetics. In January, you may be able to choose either to continue with Biology
or to specialise in Human Biology. Advice will be available to help you with this decision.
Specific Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements for A Levels apply. Grade A or B in either
GCSE Additional Science or GCSE Biology
Additional Expenses: Revision textbooks are
recommended and you will need to contribute £10
towards an ecological fi eld trip.
Residentials: Previous optional foreign
fi eld trips have been to Malaysia, Borneo,
The Bahamas, Sri Lanka, Costa Rica,
Tanzania, Australia, Vietnam and
New Zealand.
Progression: This subject allows
you to consider many courses at
university level where Biology and
Human Biology are equally valued
(with the possible exception of
veterinary science), or you may
choose to move directly into a
related career.
