Although Yeovil College recognises the importance of your academic course

sporting talents. We have a commitment to providing relevant enrichment
opportunities and have developed an excellent reputation for the quality and

Duke Of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is for young people between 14 and 25 years and gives opportunities
for personal achievement, community involvement, adventure and fun, whilst developing a range of
personal and social skills. It is actively sought by industry, colleges, universities and the armed forces.
Some of the benefi ts to young people include developing self-confi dence and self-reliance, gaining a
sense of achievement and responsibility, discovering new skills, interests and talents and developing
leadership skills and abilities. You will undertake most parts of the course in your own time as the
emphasis is on personal development. There are three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Yeovil College Student Union (YCSU)
Yeovil College Student's Union exists to support you in getting the most out of your time at College. We
do this by organising and promoting events, running campaigns and giving you the chance to say what
you think. We also organise events to raise money for local and national charities.
• Campaigns: We aim to help and inform you on things such as health issues. We also run
campaigns on world issues such as Fair Trade and Climate Change. You will do all your own
campaigning work, so be prepared to help out.
• Freshers' Fair: In September, we organise a Freshers' Fair, which gives you the chance to fi nd
out what's going on locally and to meet businesses that employ students.
• NUS Extra Card: This is the national discount card for students. It offers money off at many
high-street shops and online retailers. Make sure you get yours early and start saving money.
• Fundraising: We raise funds throughout the year for local and national charities. We run parties,
gigs and small events specifi cally to raise money and enjoy ourselves.
• Parties & Events: We organise student parties and live music events at nightclubs and other
venues in the Yeovil area and also help promote events that our students will be interested in.
Your Choices
• Student Voice: YCSU helps make students' voices heard. We have links to local councils and
other groups, so we can probably help you get your voice heard in the right place.
• How Can You Help? By becoming a Tutor Group Rep, Course Rep, a member of the Executive
Committee or just by supporting our campaigns. For YCSU to be successful, we need you to
be actively involved. Students who help with the YCSU can be rewarded through Millennium
Volunteers, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and many other ways.
